Hi all Nanaimo-Alberni Green Party members and friends:

My name is Craig, and I am one volunteer (among many) who supports Myron Jespersen's Green Party bid to represent our Nanaimo-Alberni riding. Myron has asked me to share some of my experiences, thus far, in this campaign newsletter. It was an honour which I most surely accepted.  Myron’s concerted effort to make sure that our voice is heard is precisely the kind of care and consideration that is making both him and the Green party such an attractive election-day alternative to a growing number of people.

Some of the highlights from the last forty-eight hours include:

--Having a chance to discuss the recently unveiled national Green Party platform with Myron directly. His enthusiasm and knowledge about implementing the Smart Economy demonstrated how achievable sustainable green employment is.

-- The friendly and welcoming nature I discovered while canvassing sections of the Alberni Valley with Myron showed the true colours of the city: Green! As I walked from home to home it became clear that there is a growing backlash against the Big 3 for denying Elizabeth May and the Greens a voice at the debate table. Often the question raised by residents was some form of “What are the Conservatives afraid of...?”

-- We also travelled to Parksville and Qualicum where I met organizers for Myron’s campaign, as well as a few other volunteers.  Although we covered many topics, I was most interested in the discussion of how to inform people about the Green Party platform since the other parties have denied us the chance to do so at the debates.

--After this meeting Myron and other team members set off to rendezvous with canvassing volunteers. I spent the afternoon travelling with Ed (another volunteer) putting up large campaign signs throughout the area. A great time was made all-the-more grand, due to the fabulous sunshine.  (A sign of things to come, I believe!)

It has been a fantastic few days of meeting new people on doorsteps, in coffee shops, and on roadsides. I look forward to the grand opening of the Port Alberni 3rd Avenue office on Monday April 11th, where many other supporters and volunteers will join together for the ribbon cutting ceremony. I encourage everyone to come out to this event and meet the volunteers and Myron.

I would like to thank Myron Jespersen for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this campaign letter and for his sincerity in trying to make sure that the people’s voice can still be heard over the political rhetoric of some national leaders!
