Port Alberni, BC --The Nanaimo-Alberni Federal Association of the Green Party of Canada (GPC) has nominated Myron Jespersen as their candidate for the next federal election.

Myron has many years of experience working in international humanitarian aid and community development in South and Central Asia and East Africa.  Currently he is a consultant to the Alberni Valley Stakeholders Initiative to End Homelessness, a founding director of the Alberni Valley Social Planning council, a director of the Alberni Environmental Coalition and serves on the board of the Port Alberni homeless shelter.

Although this is his first election attempt, Myron has been an active member of the Green Party for the past three years.  He has served as CEO for the Nanaimo-Alberni electoral district association and managed the campaign in the last federal election which more than doubled the Green vote from the previous election for a strong third position result.

“It is critical for us to acknowledge, restore and preserve the environmental foundation on which our economy and society is built,” said Myron to explain his motivation for running.  “The Green Party is the only party that ‘gets’ the urgency of this issue and is best placed to lead the national political action that is required to sustain our environment.”.

“We have an amazingly articulate spokesperson in Green Party leader Elizabeth May,” Myron said. “Now that we have Elizabeth as a candidate on Vancouver Island we have a wonderful opportunity to build on the long-standing Green vote-base in British Columbia.  For the first time in Canadian history we have the very real prospect of electing our first Green member in parliament.”

“I intend to work together with a team of committed local volunteers to build support for the Green Party in Nanaimo-Alberni and to advocate for Green policies on issues of concern to voters in our district,” concluded Myron.

Myron and his wife Janice reside in Port Alberni.  They have three adult children working in various parts of the world.  In their spare time they enjoy sailing, kayaking and exploring this beautiful part of the world.
